Oliver La Farge studied anthropology at Harvard University where he took part in an archaeological expedition to northern Arizona where he studied Navajo ruins. Shuster was a prominent twentieth century artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who worked primarily as a painter and sculptor. He was a member of a Santa Fe artists group "Los Cinco Pintores."
